Hey there! I’m Joanne, a multi-passionate human on a mission to redesign leadership.
Let’s be honest. Most leadership training kind of sucks, am I right? By sucks, I mean ineffective. Sometimes (often) boring. You might be thinking, Joanne, that’s a bit harsh. Maybe a little... but hear me out.
Over the last 2 years, businesses have reported record high rates of turnover. They’re calling it the “great resignation”. I’ve read endless articles attempting to dissect what is behind this mass exodus. None of them really point to the real issue.

Most businesses are operating on a weak foundation. They funnel money into products and marketing and invest minimally in people, systems and processes. When they do, they throw money at fancy technology without taking a minute to check in on whether their investment is actually driving their desired result.
Businesses are like houses. If the foundation is weak, it’s less likely to survive a strain. The pandemic was a strain and the loss of social connection that came about from the shift to remote work exposed the cracks.
What does this have to do with leadership training??
Well, I know a lot of great leaders who are doing their best. They take time off of work to attend professional development sessions, conferences, seminars – all in the attempt to grow their leadership skills. I know, because I was one of those leaders.
I felt lucky if I walked away from a full day seminar with ONE golden nugget. And most of the times, I forgot all about it once I was back in the grind. Talk about a poor ROI!
One day, I had a thought. There had to be a better way. Enter: the world of personal development.
Full disclosure, I’m a personal development junkie. I’ve obsessed with unraveling my limiting beliefs and expanding my human potential.
As I pursued my own growth, I noticed that my leadership skills expanded. More people started to say things like you’re the best boss and you’re smart and kind, that’s rare! I was puzzled. Why were people suddenly drawn to my leadership style?
It’s taken me years to figure this out. Are you ready for this?
It was because I putting what I was learning in my personal journey into practice in all aspects of my life – including at work.
The more self-aware I became, the more empathy I showed. The more I understood myself, the more courage I had to navigate difficult situations. The more I grounded myself, the more I showed up authentically.
I became a heart-centered leader.
What I know to be true
The world isn’t slowing down. Peter Diamandis (world renowned futurist) has predicted that we will experience more change in the next decade than we have in the last century.
Employees don’t stick around if they are unhappy. There are plenty of jobs on the web.
Intellectually understanding something is radically different than putting it into action. It’s not enough to understand how to be an effective leader.
It’s really hard to get perspective on your own world. Trust me – this is why I have a coach, my coach has a coach, my coach’s coach has a coach…
Social impact is no longer a nice thing to have in business. Younger generations have an expectation that impact be built into the heart of businesses.
It’s time for change.
